Here’s what happened.
There was a guy has six tabs open.
One for trading.
One for AI.
One for engineering.
One for his website.
One half-finished article.
And another tab explaining some new skill he suddenly thinks he needs.
Very focused.
At least that’s what he tells himself.
Every single thing looks useful.
That’s the annoying part.
He isn’t wasting time doing nothing. He’s learning. Building. Reading. Testing. Fixing.
So technically, he’s being productive.
And yet somehow, at the end of the week, he still gets that irritating feeling:
What the hell am I actually doing?
I know that feeling.
I have goals in trading.
Goals in engineering.
Goals in AI.
Goals for UnwrittenBroCode.
Goals to build assets.
Goals to make money.
Goals to have more control over my time.
And when I look at all of them separately, it starts to feel ridiculous.
Like I collected goals the way some people collect browser tabs.
Open one.
Get excited.
Open another.
Forget why the first one was there.
Then I start wondering if I have too many goals.
But maybe that isn’t the real problem.
Maybe the problem is that I keep looking at them as separate things
When I connect them, they start making more sense.
Engineering gives me knowledge people can value.
Systems thinking helps me organize that knowledge.
AI and automation can give me leverage.
Web design gives me a way to package and publish ideas.
UnwrittenBroCode gives me somewhere to build an audience.
Trading and other assets can build capital.
Different activities.
Same direction.
At least, they’re supposed to be.
And that’s where the frustration comes in.
Because not everything that looks productive is actually helping.
I can spend hours improving something that doesn’t matter yet and still call it “progress.”
I can start another project because the idea feels exciting.
And suddenly I’m busy again.
Busy enough to feel responsible.
Busy enough to avoid asking the uncomfortable question:
Is this actually moving me toward the life I said I wanted?
That’s the question I’m trying to use now.
Not, “Is this interesting?”
Not even, “Is this useful?”
But:
Does this connect to the same destination?
Because maybe I don’t have too many goals.
Maybe I just need to stop treating every interesting thing like it deserves equal attention.
The goal is not to do everything.
The goal is to make the things I do point in the same direction.
Otherwise, I’m not building a system.
I’m just professionally distracting myself.
